Hotels

Shetland Hotel

Holmsgarth Rd, Shetland ZE1 0PW, UK – 01595 695515

This is a very tired hotel very much in need of refurbishment. There are problems with both water and electrical supply to rooms. The food is good though.

Maybe not the prettiest building in the pack but staff first class, friendly too. Tasty food presented as in fine dining. Rooms very clean with all amenities one needs. Definitely would look no further, especially if traveling to Aberdeen by Northlink Ferries. Thank you all.

Kveldsro House Hotel

Greenfield Pl, Lerwick, Shetland ZE1 0AQ, UK – 01595 692195

Lovely hotel in Shetland, the food is all home made and delicious :) Staff are super friendly.

Extremely kind and friendly staff. Exceptional service, comfortable accommodations!

The Lerwick Hotel

15 South Rd, Lerwick, Shetland ZE1 0RB, UK – 01595 692166

Food is ridiculously over priced for what it is but the staff are decent enough. I hope you like either fish or steak because that's all your getting Monday-Saturday. The Sunday menu is so much better, I don't understand why that can't be offered all week when they charge and arm and a leg for it. The view from the restaurant is honestly the best part of the dining experience here. Not much to do in the local area but that's Shetland for you. The rooms are okay but the showers need some SERIOUS attention. The water pathetically dribbles out and when I ran a bath it was yellow. I hear it's the best hotel of the 3 or 4 you've got to pick from but I'd certainly recommend trying any of the others first.

Went to an afternoon reception today, all went smoothly, with professional attentive staff. No problems.

Piano, accordion, fiddles guitar....... Shetland music that is joyous and alive. It is hard to get up to leave.

A very quaint local pub.Small bar downstairs with a much bigger music venue upstairs Traditional Scottish music with fiddle accordion piano and much more. This is usually anyone can join in Wednesday nights with a paid group Saturday nights. Very entertaining and a great flavour of the area.

Travel Super Market search and compare prices for hotels all over the world. Could also be useful for you. I This said I was told by a hotelier that the way to get cheap rooms is to ring up the week before and ask for the weekend rate. You can usually get an absolute bargain as they will trying to book all the rooms that they have not sold! Could be worth a try!

Hansel Cottage

15 Clairmont Pl, Lerwick, Shetland ZE1 0BR, UK – 07785 358620

Just returned from an amazing week visiting the Shetlands. We stayed at Hansel cottage in Lerwick and the accommodation didn't disappoint. Everything we would have expected for holiday rental was there. Clean, well furnished to a high standard, even down to a welcome basket of local bread, eggs, butter and milk. The cottage is well located for the short walk into the center of Lerwick and well positioned for trips to the rest of the Island. Just added in making a great holiday.

"Everything was just perfect. The cottage is spacious, comfortable - especially the chair by the stove in the kitchen - and most conveniently and thoughtfully organised, with great attention to detail. There was nothing showy but everything was exactly what we needed and within easy reach. Good quality equipment and furnishing. We are thankful for the blinds that shut out the light at night. Faultlessly equipped and immaculately clean. A gem of a cottage and a particularly warm welcome." Tips: A trip to Noss with Shetland Seabirds Tours in July is a rare opportunity to see spectacular cliffs and bird cities. Another trip to Mousa from Sandwayre Pier where the seals were basking in the sun, to see more seals, more birds and the extraordinary broch. Hermaness Reserve was well worth a visit, it's an easy walk to the cliffs, the views are breathtaking and the smell and cries of the birds make it a memorable walk. Plenty to see in Unst if you're interested in the Viking heritage. The list could be neverending, but one last tip is a meal at the bar of the Scalloway Hotel, never had crab claws like those before, and the desserts are out of this world. 7th September 2017, guest from Montlucon: "Everything was just perfect. Hillhead Holiday Homes

15 Hillhead, Lerwick, Shetland ZE1 0EJ, UK – 01595 695300

In short, this place is superb. Doesn't look too big from the outside but it keeps going towards the back and it is indeed huge. Inside all the rooms are very spacious and nicely decorated. Beds are really comfy and come in all sizes. There is a great garden as well. It is very conveniently located, just a 3 minute walk down the line and you are in the shops area. Management are very friendly, available and super flexible. So I would defo come back here without hesitation.

Beautiful island

Self Catering Shetland

The Decca, Ladies Drive, Lerwick ZE1 0NA, UK – 01595 692793

Rooms are very well equipped, spacious and clean. The kitchen is fully equipped and you can cook even a full Christmas dinner in it. It has a fridge, oven, microwave oven and hob. The bedroom and the bed is rather small and a bit soft. Not the best for tall people. There are a few books about the Shetland Islands and maps for walking and hiking. Additional information, take away leaflets are available in the rooms. There is no staff on site but they were communicating with us via texts throughout our stay. We knew exactly when the room was ready, and they were always very kind. There is a wind turbine nearby which can be a bit annoying during the night. Lerwick is very close, 5 minutes by car. The place is highly recommended!

Excellent place only a couple of minutes away from Lerwick by car. Located in the Shetland countryside, it features well furnished studios apartments. Owners are very attentive and here to help if needed. Highly recommended!

We run an Airbnb bed and breakfast down in Devon (house below) - and we have stayed in Airbnb accommodation all over the place. You can find the wonderful little gems with totally committed hosts and really frightful places which you put down to experience! You absolutely have to read the details of each listing - and read the reviews! We have had people coming to East Quither Farm expecting to take over our whole house -  or our kitchen etc simply because they have not read the description. Basically use Airbnb wherever we go - but we do do our homework!

Fort Charlotte Guest House

1 Charlotte St, Lerwick, Shetland ZE1 0JL, UK – 01595 692140

Loved the place, great host's Jim and Lyn, very clean, and Breakfast to die for, I put on 4lb.

I have stayed a couple of times. The rooms are so clean and fresh and super cosy. The bathroom is spotless. Great size tv with loads of channels and all tea coffee etc. The breakfast is amazing and I have to say that it's one of the best breakfasts I've ever had. The owners are wonderful, polite and so helpful and extremely approachable. I can't wait to go again.

If you would like something truly different you might like to have a look at Airbnb. These are mostly B and Bs provided by people on a very informal basis. The may have a spare room, a yurt, a cottage or a barge with space they can receive guests for a night or a month! The website is highly professional. You can really see what you are going to get. Very well worth a look. Airbnb also show 'conventional' B&Bs as well. Enjoy!
